A expressão "mistério da iniqüidade", usada por Paulo em 2 Tessalonicenses 2, relaciona-se diretamente com a pessoa de Satanás e de seu Anticristo. Trata-se das manifestações de Satanás na época que precede a vinda do Senhor Jesus.
De certa forma, atualmente Satanás ainda tenta ocultar sua verdadeira face, mas, após o arrebatamento da Igreja, revelar-se-á em sua plenitude a natureza iníqua de suas obras e o agente principal dessa manifestação será o Anticristo, que é chamado de "homem do pecado", o revelador da iniqüidade.
