Sempre houve os que deram ao batismo nas águas valor sacramental, valor que transmite graça ao que recebe o ato. Há igrejas que julgam ser o batismo indispensável à salvação, e, por isso, batizam até crianças.
Nos dias de Paulo," houve os que levaram esse assunto a tal ponto que julgaram necessário batizar pessoas vivas em lugar de outras que haviam morrido sem terem oportunidade de receber o batismo.
