POR QUE DEUS USOU O “PROFETA VELHO” DE 1º REIS 13 APÓS ELE TER PROFETIZADO MENTIRA?
EDIFICAÇÃO
ESPIRITUAL
Ele confia no profeta
velho e aceita a sua hospitalidade. O texto afirma que o profeta velho mentiu
(v.18).
estarmos seguros de sua origem. Deus nunca se contradiz;
verdade e prejudicou o povo de Deus;
intimidá-lo.

SPIRITUAL UPBUILDING
WHY DID GOD USE THE "OLD PROPHET" OF 1 KINGS 13 AFTER HE HAS PROPHESIED A LIE?
Klauber Pastor Marcio Maia responds to light of the Bible:
The 13th chapter of 1 Kings accounts of an event involving two prophets. The first was the Southern Kingdom and was sent by God to prophesy to the king of the north, Jeroboam. God's orders were very clear: deliver the message, and to ensure full relief and disapproval of what was happening, would not receive any hospitality, or return through the same way.
The message was delivered, and confirmed by the Lord with the signs done. King Jeroboam offers a welcome and reward, which are rejected by the prophet. By refusing the hospitality of the prophet the king made the divine order public, which soon became known to all on that place. The news came to an old prophet, who lived in Bethel, and he met the young prophet in order to deceive him.
On finding the young prophet, of course, tired and hungry, resting at the foot of a tree, the old prophet said he had received a message from an angel from God, which contradicted the order that God had given the young prophet. He trusts the old prophet and accepted his hospitality. The text states that the old prophet lied (v.18).
Once consummated the disobedience of the man of Judah, the old prophet sent a message of God (now true), announcing a punishment to the young prophet. The message is fulfilled, in full; he is killed by a lion on the way home. The fact that, his mount stays alive and the lion next to, confirm something that was directed by God.
Let us make some important observations:
1st) the message of the old prophet was given by an angel and was contradictory. It is a perfect application of what the apostle Paul says in Galatians 1:8. An angel cannot invalidate a divine word;
2nd) the fact that the old prophet has lied on the first post does not make him unfit to receive another message from God, that God was proven, since it came to fulfill (Deut 18:22).
The old prophet might have lied for personal vanity, wanting to show that he was a prophet greater than the foreigner. The Bible does not state his motivation. God may have allowed the lie, though not to stimulate, to prove man's obedience to the king of the South, he said with confidence: "I'm not going with you." Perhaps he was already wavering in his convictions.
We can draw lessons from this episode:
1st) we ought to compare all the prophecies in the Word of God, to be sure of their origin. God never contradicts himself;
2nd) the fact of someone being used to bring a message from God does not show that he is very spiritual, because this quality is determined by the fruit of the Spirit, not by spiritual gifts. Balaam was also used by the Lord, but moved away from the truth and hurt the people of God;
3rd) we should be careful about the messages given in moments of strong emotion. It is possible that the old prophet has taken advantage of the situation of fatigue, hunger and thirst of the young prophet to intimidate him
